I thought today I would share some of the trends that I find myself repeating throughout my Project Life albums. In general, I do not really consider myself a trendy person—though I suppose PL is a trend in itself—but when it comes to scrapbooking I can’t help but love some of the latest and greatest products. For PL, I particularly find myself attracted to elements that can be scattered throughout my album.
Using washi as my first trend almost feels like cheating. Of course I love washi! Everyone loves washi!
Sometimes, it is just functional. It holds things in place, so they don’t slide to the bottom of the pocket. Because it is a tape, it lies completely flat and does not add bulk the way staples or brads would.
Sometimes, it is just beautiful. I use one roll of washi per album. In addition to keeping my collection from becoming completely out of control, using a single design adds consistency and makes it part of the “kit”. I have been using this Amy Tangerine camera paper a lot as well (1 12×12, cut into 3×4 pieces) and in most cases I run a bit of washi tape on one side—I feel like this makes it look a little more intentional. Obviously, this serves no functional value, but I love the way it looks.
2. Sequins & Staples
Oh sequins. Typically, this would so not be my kind of fad. Too cutesy. Too shiny. Then I saw them stapled and I started to think of ways that I could get behind this. I used to really love brads, so maybe this will be a less bulky substitute.
Like the washi, I bought one pack of blue sequins that matches my Seafoam kit. I got them for 99p at a normal little sewing store and there appears to be about a million in the package. So far, I have been using them a lot over die cuts or a strip of tape, just to add a little something.
3. Wood Veneers
I love the look of wood veneers. I feel like they really add interest to an otherwise simple design. Because they are thick I try to limit my use, but you will be seeing them again. Oh yes, you will!
4. See Through Elements
For the last couple of years, I have drooled every time Ali Edwards used one of her awesome brushes to make a see through pocket. When she released a travel theme, I knew it was time to not let a little thing like not owning a silhouette stop me. With the help of my new friend Susan—thanks Susan!!—I am now the proud owner of a shiny new set of these beauties and intend to use them as often as possible.
5. Paper Clips
Like washi, paper clips are both functional and adorable. I cannot resist an air plane. I am also thinking I absolutely cannot live without the silver cameras that I see everyone using.
So, these are a few of my favorite things. I wanted to list them here because I think it will be fun to see how my style changes. This would also be a really fun thing to jot down on a 3×4 card. Hint hint 🙂
